I started painting for relaxation later in life and discovered a whole world of possibility when life wasn’t going exactly the way I’d hoped. While I had always enjoyed crafty things, I never considered myself an 'artist.' Still, I began painting—messy, imperfect paintings—and to my surprise, I found myself feeling more present, curious, and alive despite being in the middle of a challenging season. Creating became a way to slow down and reconnect with myself.
I realized that the value wasn’t in making something “perfect,” but in giving myself permission to play, it was the process itself that I found so appealing (for the record, even perfect is subjective).
With practice over the years, I've created some amazing paintings that I love - but that realization stayed with me. I decided to show some friends, and then they brought friends & relatives, and then I started teaching at Wilderness Art Quarry, a local gallery full of amazing Colorado artists - before I knew it my little adventure had turned into a whole new vehicle for spending quality time with fun and interesting people!
So here we are... I'm expanding I've turned my basement art studio into a welcoming place for anyone who's interested in exploring the process for themselves. People who join my workshops describe similar experiences, feeling calmer in a noisy world, if only for a few minutes. Great conversations, or not, and new insights through creative exploration.
I enjoy guiding class participants toward rediscovering their lives by helping them reconnect with their own creative spark—whatever that looks like for them. You don’t need to be artistic or “creative” in any traditional sense. Creativity is simply another way of understanding yourself and opening the door to try something and see what happens.
